News: Meek elected free agency in lieu of accepting his outright assignment to Triple-A Norfolk, Eduardo Encina of the Baltimore Sun reports.
Impact: Meek was outrighted last week after pitching 23.1 innings for the Orioles in 2014. He made 23 total appearances, posting a 5.79 ERA while allowing 15 earned runs and 11 walks. In 39 Triple-A appearances, his ERA was much friendlier, hovering just under 2.00 (1.94) in 41.2 innings. The 31-year-old will look to earn a Spring Training invite from another club this offseason.

News: Meek was outrighted to Triple-A Norfolk on Wednesday.
Impact: Meek's removal leaves the Orioles' 40-man roster at 38. He pitched 23.1 innings for the Orioles last season, allowing 16 runs (15 earned) over that span on 26 hits. The 31-year-old has the option to refuse the assignment or remain with the club as organizational depth going into the 2015 season. He will likely end up with an invite to spring training somewhere heading into next season.
