News: Beltre (leg) signed a minor league contract with the White Sox on Friday, Matt Eddy of Baseball America reports.
Impact: A fractured right tibia, suffered late in spring training, kept Beltre off the field until late June, and his rehab assignment was then cut short due to an injury to his left leg. Surgery was needed to insert a rod into his left leg, which cut short his season and effectively ended his tenure with the Rangers. His health is a big question mark heading into spring training, but Beltre would be hard pressed to earn a roster spot even if completely healthy. The 25-year-old is a strong defender in center field hasn't hit at any level in the minors.
