Encarnacion (ankle) is back in the lineup for Game 5 of the ALDS against the Yankees on Wednesday.
Encarnacion missed the last two games while dealing with a bad-looking sprained ankle that he suffered in Game 2, but will return to the lineup for the decisive final contest of the series. He will bat cleanup while manning the DH spot against CC Sabathia and the Yankees.
Encarnacion returned to Cleveland's lineup for Game 5 of the AL Division Series, but went 0 for 4 as the Indians fell to the New York Yankees 5-2. He ended the game with a .000 batting average.
Encarnacion was back after missing two games and most of another when he sprained his right ankle in Friday's Game 2. The slugger was hardly a factor, though, striking out in three of his four playoff appearances. Despite the sour endings, the Indians got their money's worth in the first season of the three-year, $60 million deal they gave the three-time All-Star this past winter, and Encarnacion should remain a top-tier fantasy DH in 2018.
The Indians believe Encarnacion (ankle) will be available for Game 5 of the ALDS against the Yankees on Wednesday, Anthony Castrovince of MLB.com reports.
Encarnacion hasn't played since spraining his ankle in Game 2, but the Indians are optimistic about his status for their decisive Game 5 showdown with New York. He's expected to do some running on Tuesday to test his ankle.
Encarnacion remains out of the Cleveland Indians' lineup for Game 4 of their AL Division Series against the New York Yankees.
The slugger has been sidelined since leaving Game 2 with a sprained right ankle last Friday. The team says he is day to day.
Encarnacion (ankle) is out of the lineup for Game 4 of the ALDS against the Yankees on Monday.
This doesn't come as much of a surprise, as Encarnacion wasn't available Sunday after spraining his ankle during Friday's game. While the team hasn't elaborated on Encarnacion's availability for Monday's contest, it will likely be careful with the 34-year-old slugger. Michael Brantley will serve as Cleveland's DH and hit sixth Monday.
