News: Owings (shoulder) may not be ready for the start of spring training but is expected to be 100 percent for Opening Day, Jack Magruder of FOX Sports Arizona reports.
Impact: A head-first slide into home plate in June resulted in a labrum injury to Owings' left shoulder, one which required surgery to repair at the conclusion of the season. Owings hit .277/.313/.458 with six homers and seven steals in 238 at-bats before being forced out of action, and the Diamondbacks' trade of Didi Gregorius suggests they plan to deploy Owings as the starter at short next season, health permitting. D-backs manager Chip Hale said that the current plan includes having Owings participating in drills and workouts when spring training begins.
