News: Wallace, a non-roster invitee to Padres' camp, could earn a spot on the bench with the major league club, Jeff Sanders of the Union-Tribune.
Impact: Wallace spent the 2014 season in the Astros and Blue Jays farm systems. At 28, he's contending for a reserve role for San Diego. Manager Bud Black was quoted as saying, "I think there's a natural hitter to this guy that might lend himself to the National League as a bench player...there's a lot to like about him." It's a tall order for Wallace to make the major league club, but if he does, he'll add some left handed power off the bench.

News: Wallace has signed a minor league deal with the Padres, Matt Eddy of Baseball America reports.
Impact: After spending parts of four seasons with the Astros major league team, Wallace spent all of 2014 in the minors in the Houston and Toronto systems. He could offer San Diego a little power in their lineup at times this season, as he hit 13 homers and drove in 36 runs in 285 plate appearances for Houston in 2013.
