News: Zobrist was traded to the A's on Saturday, the San Francisco Chronicle's Susan Slusser reports.
Impact: Oakland lands Zobrist and Yunel Escobar in exchange for John Jaso, top prospect Daniel Robertson, and lesser prospect Boog Powell. Zobrist will primarily play second base and the outfield in Oakland, and profiles as a great fit on an A's team that has become well-known for valuing versatile players in recent years. The case could be made that he immediately becomes the A's best hitter, as his 119 wRC+ from last season ranks first on the roster among qualified hitters. He should come close to replicating his .272/.354/.395 slash line from last season, with close to 10 homers and 10 steals in his age-34 season, and will become a free agent at the end of the year.
