Wong gets the call to join Cardinals in Chicago

The Cardinals have announced the purchase of second baseman Kolten Wong from Triple-A Memphis and optioned outfielder Adron Chambers.

Wong has been added to the 40-man roster and will wear No. 16 when he joins the club in Chicago. The Hawaiian is ranked as the organization’s fourth-best prospect by MLB.com and was hitting .303 with 10 home runs, 45 RBIs and 68 runs scored in his first full season with the Triple-A Redbirds.

Wong was selected in the first round of the 2011 first-year player draft and was the Cardinals’ representative in the XM All-Star Futures Game at this year’s All-Star Weekend in New York.
