ST. LOUIS -- The St. Louis
Rams' quest for added depth and experience at linebacker ended on a familiar name.
Veteran Will Witherspoon signed a one-year contract with the team Monday, the Rams announced this morning. The team did not disclose financial terms.
The season will be a homecoming of sorts. Witherspoon played 54 games for the Rams from 2006-09 before he was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles for receiver Brandon Gibson.
Witherspoon, 32, also played for Rams coach Jeff Fisher and a host of other current Rams coaches and players with the Tennessee Titans. He is currently the oldest player on the Rams' active roster, and will be an asset to a young linebacking corps that includes rookie first-round pick Alec Ogletree.
In a career that has spanned 11 years, Witherspoon has totaled 173 games, 150 starts, 938 tackles, 26 sacks, 11 forced fumbles, seven fumble recoveries and 13 interceptions.
He celebrated his signing with this tweet.
