Teryn's Hot Topics: Another check on the bucket list

ST. LOUIS -- I can still hear the "Call to the Post," that oh-so-familiar sound of the trumpet fanfare kicking off the big race.
This past weekend I donned my big fancy hat and attended the 140th Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs in Louisville, and had a splendid time watching California Chrome run for the roses. The Kentucky Derby has always been on my sports bucket list, and it was as exciting as I had dreamed it would be.
Of course, that got me thinking about what else is on my sports bucket list. Some of the sporting events I am blessed to have checked off already -- and many thanks to my dream job as a FOX Sports Midwest Girl! Others will be checked off down the road.
-- Kentucky Derby (check)
-- World Series (check)
-- PGA events: The Masters and/or Phoenix Open
-- U.S. Open tennis tournament in New York
-- NCAA Final Four
-- Historical baseball stadiums: Wrigley Field (check), Fenway Park (check)
-- Spring training (check)
-- NBA game: Growing up in St. Louis, I've never had the chance
-- AT&T Stadium -- formerly Cowboys Stadium, a.k.a. "Jerry's World" (check)
-- NASCAR race (check)
-- SEC football stadiums (Missouri, check; Arkansas, check; the other 12 schools ...)
-- Super Bowl
-- International soccer match overseas
-- Rodeo (check), but the Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo and barrel races would definitely one-up that
-- FOXSportsMidwest.com has been leading up to Thursday's NFL Draft making a case for several top prospects the Rams could take with the No. 2 overall pick, including Jake Matthews, Greg Robinson, Sammy Watkins and either Jadeveon Clowney or Khalil Mack.
One of them jumped out at me because one thing is certain: The Rams need to make a splash on offense. Defense can't win games without points on the board. Sam Bradford still needs weapons (along with a strong line) ... enter Watkins. The Clemson wide receiver has been on my radar all offseason, and I think he would be a fabulous No. 2 overall pick for St. Louis. With the signing of free-agent wide receiver Kenny Britt and other major needs (ahem, the offensive line), I am not sure that drafting Watkins will happen. But it is fun to think about.
Kayla, Katie and I will be waiting to see who the Rams take in the first round at No. 2 and No. 13 at the Official St. Louis Rams Draft Day Party presented by Bud Light on Thursday at the Buffalo Wild Wings in Kirkwood. Come see us, Rams players, cheerleaders and Rampage and enter to win cool prizes, all while cheering on the Rams.
- We have another appearance this week that is close to my heart. Kayla, Katie and I will participate in the Girls on the Run St. Louis Spring Run on Saturday. Join us in supporting hundreds of local girls in the GOTR mission to "empower girls for a lifetime of healthy living." This will be my second race with GOTR and I am so excited to see the girls achieve their goals and finish a 5K. I will also be rooting on my hometown GOTR teams, who I had a chance to visit with last fall. The Waterloo teams really inspired me in my visit and I was in awe of the GOTR program. I am very excited for Saturday's celebration!
The FOX Sports Girls from around the country joined together this week to share why we are #MomsBiggestFan in honor of Mother's Day on Sunday. My mom has passed her love of sports on to me; we always had sports on in our home and she supported me in all the sports I played. Aside from taking me to sporting events growing up, one of my favorite memories was a trip Mom and I took together during spring break while I was in college. She and I hung out at the beach and searched Cancun high and low each day for places to watch the NCAA tournament.
Share with us why you are #MomsBiggestFan and you could win a special pink Louisville Slugger bat in honor of Mother's Day!
It was great to see the Cardinals continue the Braves' losing streak Monday and for Peter Bourjos to break his hitless streak. The Cat talks to the Cardinal newbie on his big night and his role with the team in the video below.
My shout-outs this week have a Mizzou theme. I want to extend a congratulations to former Mizzou standout and O'Fallon, Mo., native T.J. Moe, who signed with the St. Louis Rams this week as a free agent, and to Mizzou Made Michael Sam, who will be receiving this year's Arthur Ashe Courage Award at the ESPYs in July. Another shout-out goes to newly anointed Tigers basketball coach Kim Anderson, who nabbed his first recruit at MU in 6-foot-7, 190-pound small forward D'Angelo Allen out of Kimball High in Dallas.
