Cardinals trim four players from spring roster

Published Mar. 19, 2017 6:56 p.m. ET

As the St. Louis Cardinals inch closer to the start of the 2017 regular season, they continue to make progress in assembling a 25-man roster.

Following their 5-2 exhibition win over the Atlanta Braves on Sunday afternoon, the Cardinals made a few cuts from their spring training roster, optioning outfielder Anthony García and right-handed pitcher Rowan Wick to Triple-A Memphis while re-assigning right-hander Josh Lucas and left-hander Zach Phillips to minor league camp.

Sunday's transactions reduce the number of players in the Cardinals' major league camp to 47, including 14 non-roster invitees.
