Shoulder pain will prevent Cardinals left-hander Jaime Garcia from starting Sunday against the Mets, according to MLB.com’s Jenifer Langosch and the St. Louis Post-Dispatch‘s Derrick Goold.

Garcia, who appeared to be in line for the fifth spot in the rotation, logged 9 1/3 innings over three starts, posting a 1-1 record and a 3.86 ERA.

He has undergone surgery on his left shoulder twice over the past 22 months. The most recent procedure, performed in July 2014 to address symptoms associated with thoracic outlet syndrome, ended his season after seven starts.
