The St. Louis Cardinals inched closer to their season-opening 25-man roster, optioning pitchers Tim Cooney, Dean Kiekhefer, Miguel Socolovich and Sam Tuivailala and catcher Mike Ohlman to Triple A Memphis and reassigning first baseman/outfielder David Washington to minor league camp Sunday.

The roster moves leave 34 players in major league camp, including five non-roster invitees.

The Cardinals’ spring roster currently has 16 pitchers (one non-roster), three catchers (one non-roster); nine infielders (one non-roster) and six outfielders (two non-roster).
