Red Sox show respect for Cardinals with full-page ad

Red Sox tip their caps to Cardinals, region and fans with full-page newspaper ad

ST. LOUIS -- Classy move, Red Sox. Truly classy.

Less than a week after ending the St. Louis Cardinals' pursuit of a 12th world championship, the Boston Red Sox gave a tip of their caps to their vanquished foe.

The Red Sox took out a full-page ad in Tuesday's St. Louis Post-Dispatch to acknowledge their respect for the Cardinals. In a three-paragraph letter headlined "From One Great Baseball Town to Another," the Red Sox paid tribute to the St. Louis region, its people and the entire Cardinals organization, who "represent everything that's great about baseball."

The letter is signed by owner John Henry, chairman Tom Werner and president/CEO Larry Lucchino.

So during a week when one of the biggest stories in sports is about a pro football player suspended from his team for allegedly bullying his teammate mercilessly, it's reassuring to see an example of friendly and respectful competition at its highest level.

Right back at ya, Red Sox.
