Oprah Winfrey wants to tell Michael Sam's story.

Winfrey's OWN cable network announced Wednesday that it will produce a documentary series about the newest member of the St. Louis Rams and first openly gay football player drafted in the NFL.

No title or air date have officially been set, but the series will be produced by Emmy-nominated filmmaker Amy Rice ("Lindsay," "By The People: The Election of Barack Obama") and Craig Piligian's Pilgrim Studios.

Sam, the former University of Missouri All-American and reigning SEC Co-Defensive Player of the Year, is working on making the Rams' roster after being selected by the team 249th overall in last week's NFL Draft.
