“Times have changed since then, but soldiers are still making tremendous sacrifices,” Kayla said.
She’ll see firsthand this week at U.S. Army Garrison Grafenwoehr in Germany. Kayla is part of a group of major league players, Hall of Famers, FOX Sports broadcasters and FOX Sports Girls as FOX Sports brings Spring Training to the Troops.
FOX Sports created Spring Training to the Troops to showcase the daily life of soldiers, and the commitment they make to our country. Soldiers make a sacrifice by being overseas, and this trip provides an opportunity to bring some of the fun of Spring Training to them.
Activities include a game of wiffle ball featuring MPs vs. the 172nd Infantry Brigade with current and former MLB players and FOX Sports Girls on both teams; morning physical training and meals with the troops; youth baseball clinics for children of troops; and visits to the Wounded Warrior Center and schools on base.
Also on the trip are Hall of Famers Wade Boggs and Rollie Fingers, Diamondbacks pitcher Heath Bell and Padres pitcher Luke Gregerson, former major leaguers Brian Schneider, David Justice, Tim Salmon and Orestes Destrade, Tigers announcer Mario Impemba and FOX Sports Girls representing each FOX Sports regional network
Kayla hopes to connect with members of Cardinal Nation while at Grafenwoehr, the Army’s premier training base for US and international troops. The Cardinals provided hats and new alternate jerseys to give to soldiers.
“The Cardinals and our friends at SportService in the Cardinals Team Store are proud to send these items for what seems like a great outreach from FOX Sports to the troops in Germany,” Cardinals Director of Ticket Sales and Marketing Martin Coco said.
