Cardinals activate RHP Rondon for Sunday’s game; option Fornataro to Memphis

Right-handed pitcher Jorge Rondon has been in the Major Leagues twice this season with the Cardinals, but has yet to appear in a game.

ST. LOUIS, Mo. — The Cardinals have recalled right-handed pitcher Jorge Rondon from Triple-A Memphis. The 26-year-old — who has been in the Major Leagues twice this season with the team, but has yet to appear in a game — will be activated in time for Sunday’s finale against the Dodgers.

Rondon was 3-2 with a 3.41 ERA in 27 appearances at Memphis, striking out 23 batters in 34 1/3 innings.

To make room for him in the St. Louis lineup, the team has optioned Eric Fornataro to Memphis after Saturday’s 9-2 loss. The right-handed pitcher made one appearance duing his mos trecent recall, yesterday, allowing two runs over two innings against Los Angeles. Fornataro has appeared in eight games this season with the Cardinals, posting a 4.66 ERA in 9 2/3 innings.
