ST. LOUIS — The trade that brought Alexander Steen to St. Louis in November 2008 also brought a defenseman, Carlo Colaiacovo, who played parts of four seasons with the Blues. Now Colaiacovo is back to help fill a hole on the team’s blue line after signing a one-year contract.
“With Jordan Leopold (hand) out for a significant period, we wanted to bring an experienced player into our group of seven,” said Doug Armstrong, the team’s president of hockey operations and general manager. “Being a former Blue, Carlo is familiar with our organization, which should make for an easy transition.”
Colaiacovo, 30, spent last season in the Detroit Red Wings’ organization and has appeared in 376 NHL games over 10 seasons — none so far this season. Previously, the 6-1, 200-pound defenseman spent parts of 2008-2012 with the Blues. While in St. Louis, Colaiacovo dressed in 259 games, registering 106 points (18 goals, 88 assists) and 134 penalty minutes.
