Why was 'Ace' Ventura wearing Guthrie's glove in his debut?

For 'Ace' Ventura, it was something borrowed (Guthrie's glove), something new (a big league start)

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- If you watched Yordano "Ace" Ventura's major league debut on FOX Sports Kansas City on Tuesday night, you might have noticed a different pitcher's name on his glove.

Indeed, the name on the glove was "Jeremy Guthrie," an an FSKC closeup of the glove revealed. Ventura had to borrow Guthrie's glove because in his haste to get from Omaha to Kansas City on Monday, Ventura forgot his "game" glove.

"All I had was my practice glove and it's pretty beat up," Ventura said through interpreter Ervin Santana.

Because Ventura has a contract with Rawlings, he needed to find another Rawlings to use. Enter Guthrie to the rescue.

"Anything to help a rookie," Guthrie said, smiling.

And though Ventura said he felt comfortable with Guthrie's glove, it didn't exactly fit like a glove -- not like the original Ace Ventura's parking fit like a glove.

Ventura committed an error with Guthrie's glove, dropping a throw from first baseman Eric Hosmer at the bag. Ventura also let a grounder go under his glove that eventually was fielded by second basemen Emilio Bonifacio.

Still, Ventura claims he may not give the Guthrie glove back.

"He has to give it to me, right?" Ventura said, smiling.

A day after his debut, Ventura also said he was pleased with his performance. He gave up just one run in 5 2/3 innings and left with a 3-1 lead. The Royals eventually lost 5-3.

"I'm just glad I could throw strikes," he said.

Ventura did more than that -- he hit 101 mph on the radar with one pitch. While Ventura said he was unaware he had thrown that hard, catcher Sal Perez was more than aware.

"I got the scoreboard in front of me," Perez said. "I knew. But I wasn't going to tell him. Didn't want him getting too excited."
