Royals avoid arbitration with Getz

Getz, who made $967,500 last season, batted .275 with 17 RBIs in nine stolen bases in 64 games last season. He spent three stretches on the disabled list, including for a fractured left thumb that ended his season on Aug. 17.
The Royals have tried numerous second base options the past couple seasons without settling on an everyday player, though they were 30-25 when Getz was in the starting lineup.
The deal leaves right-hander Luke Hochevar, who made $3.51 million last year, as the club's only unsigned arbitration-eligible player. The deadline to offer contracts to unsigned players on 40-man rosters was later Friday.
