Gervinho, Rising Legend prevail

DEL MAR, Calif. (AP)

Gervinho and Rising Legend won divisions of the $100,000 Oceanside Stakes for 3-year-olds on Wednesday at Del Mar before an opening day crowd of 43,030.

Ridden by Rafael Bejarano, Gervinho rallied from mid-pack to win the first division by a neck. He ran 1 mile on the turf in 1:33.88 and paid $7.80.

The victory, worth $67,140, increased Gervinho's career earnings to $113,150 with three wins in five starts.

In the second division, Rising Legend and Julien Leparoux won by a head, going the distance in 1:33.96. He paid $17.60,at 7-1 odds in his first start since November. He won $66,900 and increased his career earnings to $112,500 with three wins in eight starts.

Joel Rosario rode four winners on the 10-race card.
