Borel facing drunken-driving charge
EVANSVILLE, IND. (AP)
Jockey Calvin Borel, a three-time Kentucky Derby winner jockey, has been arrested on a charge of drunken driving in Evansville.
The 44-year-old Louisville, Ky., resident was released on $100 bond Sunday morning from the Vanderburgh County Jail in Evansville after being arrested the night before.
His agent, Jerry Hissam of Louisville, said Borel had a blood-alcohol level slightly above Indiana’s legal limit of 0.08 percent when he was arrested about 10 p.m. Saturday as he pulled into the parking lot of the motel where he was staying.
Hissam said he pulled Borel off his scheduled rides Sunday at Ellis Park in nearby Henderson, Ky.
Borel won the Kentucky Derby with Super Saver in 2010, with Mine that Bird in 2009, and with Street Sense in 2007.
He ranks 58th nationally among jockeys this year, having ridden horses to $2.58 million in purse money. Borel has 81 wins in 516 mounts in 2011.
