Carson Hollow, New York's 2002 Horse of the Year, suffered a chip in her left knee and might miss the remainder of the year. She is scheduled to undergo surgery at Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital near Lexington. Trainer Richard Dutrow Jr. discovered the injury a couple of days after the 4-year-old filly worked six furlongs in 1:11 4/5 at Aqueduct last week in preparation for the June 8 Vagrancy Handicap (gr. II) at Belmont Park.

"It will depend on the prognosis of Dr. Larry Bramlage (of Rood and Riddle) whether she will be returned to training," Dutrow said.

Carson Hollow, who is owned by Frank Stronach in partnership with Hemlock Hills Farm (Alfred and Lupe Hemlock), Gabrielle Farm (John Acierno), Justine Zimmerman, and Sanford Goldfarb, also was voted New York's champion sprinter and best 3-year-old filly last year. She won five of seven races, including the Prioress Stakes (gr. I) at Belmont Park, and finished just a nose behind You in the Test Stakes (gr. I) at Saratoga. In her three starts this year, she captured the Distaff Breeders' Cup Handicap (gr. II) at Aqueduct and was second in the Barbara Fritchie (gr. II) and Genuine Risk (gr. II) Handicaps.

Carson Hollow (Carson City -- Lizeality, by Hold Your Peace) has a career mark of six wins and three seconds from 10 starts and $500,110 in earnings.
