Kentucky Derby winner Orb outside the Preakness Barn at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland.
No. 1 Orb
Jockey: Joel Rosario Trainer: C. McGaughey Odds: Even Comment: The race seems to set up for the Derby winner. He is training brilliantly and the field has come up weak. Here we go again.
Jockey: Kevin Krigger Trainer: Doug O’Neill Odds: 6-1 Comment: Was it the wet track in the Derby or is he just a California runner? Bettor beware if you are going to try and get your money back.
Jockey: Julien Leparoux Trainer: D.W. Lukas Odds: 30-1 Comment: Owned by ex-Packer Hall of Famers Paul Hornung and Willie Davis. This one isn’t Super and figures to be looking at everyone else’s backside at the finish.
No. 4 Departing
Jockey: B. Hernandez Jr. Trainer: A. Stall Jr. Odds: 6-1 Comment: Won the Illinois Derby in fine fashion. Trainer had Blame, the only horse to finish ahead of Zenyatta. Don’t see Departing pulling a stunner here.
Jockey: Rosie Napravnik Trainer: T. Amoss Odds: 5-1 Comment: Mylute figures to enjoy better journey than in the Derby, but would need to put in a career-best effort here. "I don't know how you beat Orb. He's the best 3-year-old. If he runs his last race, he'll be difficult to beat," Mylute’s trainer Tom Amoss said.
No. 6 Oxbow
Jockey: Gary Stevens Trainer: D.W. Lukas Odds: 15-1 Comment: One of a trio of Lukas horses. Caught up in wild pace in Derby, held for sixth. Hard to see winning here.
No. 7 Will Take Charge
Jockey: Mike Smith Trainer: D.W. Lukas Odds: 12-1 Comment: Stopped cold while making move in the Derby. Will be a threat with some running room.
No. 8 Govenor Charlie
Jockey: Martin Garcia Trainer: B. Baffert Odds: 12-1 Comment: Impressive winner of Sunland Derby. This is a step up. A big one.
No. 9 Itsmyluckyday
Jockey: John Velazquez Trainer: E. Plesa Jr. Odds: 10-1 Comment: Came up empty over wet track in the Derby. Hasn’t beaten Orb, and don’t see that happening here.
