2nd ranked Chapman will take on 3rd ranked BYU Saturday night in a rematch of the 2009 MCLA semi-final game in which Chapman edged out BYU in overtime, 10-9. Game time is set for 10pm ET and will air live on FCS Pacific.

The Chapman Panthers (1-0, 0-0 SLC Division 1) are coming off a 15-2 rout over University of San Diego Feb. 6 in their 2010 MCLA home-opener. Chapman has won the SLC DI championship the last two seasons and has placed second in the MCLA National Championship two years straight losing to Michigan both times.

The Panthers are led by 2009 MCLA player of the year, senior Connor Martin, who last season led CU in goals (51), assists (31) and points (82). Senior midfielder and team captain Blake Whitcomb was 2nd on the team in assists (30) and shot a team-leading .426 shot percentage last season. Chapman added four players with NCAA lacrosse experience for the 2010 season, including Sophomore Madison Fiore, who transferred from University of Maryland and led all scorers with 6 goals and 1 assist in the win over the Toreros last Saturday.

BYU (0-0, 0-0 RMLC Division I) begins its season Thursday when they face San Diego State before they travel to Orange County to avenge their 2009 MCLA semi-final loss to Chapman. BYU, considered an MCLA powerhouse, have had consecutive winning seasons since 1996 and in that time won the MCLA national championship in 1997, 2000, and 2007.

BYU is led by Lacrosse Magazine’s preseason player of the year for MCLA Division I, Elliot Grow, who led the Cougars in assists (39) and points (80) last season. The Cougars welcome a new coach as former assistant coach Matt Schneck takes over after being an assistant at BYU for the past eight seasons. BYU also added midfielder twins, Jared and Jacob Houghton, who transferred from NCAA Division I Denver University.

This contest represents the first live regular season MCLA television broadcast on a major sports network. This game will also be the debut of 3-time NCAA All-American from John Hopkins University, Kyle Harrison, as Chapman University’s offensive assistant.

Catch all the action live on Saturday night at 10pm ET on FCS Pacific, DirecTV channel 623.
