Wise Captures Pole, Top-Ten at O'Reilly Raceway Park
Team Mopar's USAC National Midget Series teams returned to action on July 1 at O'Reilly Raceway Park, with Tony Stewart Racing Enterprises' Josh Wise kicking off the action by claiming top qualifier honors in the No. 20 machine. Wise currently leads the Earl's Plumbing Fast Qualifier Championship in the USAC Midget Series division. The defending series champion transferred from the fourth heat race to finish ninth on the night and came away from the event ranked seventh in the series points chase. Levi Jones and the No. 21 Tony Stewart Racing Enterprises team also posted a solid finish in the event. Jones battled handling issues in the early stages of the night, but the team was able to recover to battle to a 12th-place finish in the feature event. Jones was followed to the line by his Tony Stewart Racing Enterprises' teammate Kyle Nicholas, who drove the No. 29 machine to a 14th-place finish. The Wilke-PAK Motorsports duo of Jerry Coons Jr., and Tracy Hines also competed in the event. Coons, Jr., led the point standings into the event, and a strong run in the No. 11 machine saw him come away from the night continuing to lead the championship. Hines drove the No. 1 machine for the team and was credited with a 19th-place finish at the checkered flag. Brad Kuhn also put on a strong display of Mopar power, as he drove the No. 74 machine to a sixth-place finish in the feature event. Kuhn then went on to win his fifth Badger Midget Series event at Angell Park Speedway on July 2 to wrap up the weekend. The Avon, Indiana, driver is currently ranked fifth in the USAC National Midget Car Series points chase. The USAC National Midget Car Series event scheduled for July 4 at Columbus Motor Speedway was washed out by rain. It will be held later today and will feature a Mopar powered entry driven by NASCAR star Ryan Newman. For more information regarding the USAC National Midget Car Series, log on to usacracing.com.
