Crown Royal to Sponsor Famed Kings Royal
Already rich in heritage and tradition, Eldora Speedway's prestigious Kings Royal event is raising the bar once again. Crown Royal, the renowned Canadian whisky, is proud to present this year's 23rd edition of the famed event, slated for July 15. The Kings Royal by Crown Royal will lure winged sprint car drivers from across the nation and competing sanctioning bodies to the legendary half-mile dirt oval in hopes of grabbing the hefty $50,000 paycheck awaiting the 40-lap feature winner. The Kings Royal by Crown Royal, with its traditional side-by-side battles, has annually earned the reputation as one of the nation's leading sprint car events. Excited about the new partnership, Crown Royal and Eldora Speedway will use the event to promote the message of responsible drinking. Jim Lorenz, Senior Brand Manager for Crown Royal, explains, "Our entire organization is thrilled to be part of such a prominent open-wheel event while having the opportunity to interact with racing's most loyal and passionate fans. Likewise, we look forward to promoting our adage of ¿Be a Champion. Drink Responsibly'." While the premier event will offer exciting programs and important messages for fans, the drivers will be intrigued by the unique bonus program facilitated by Crown Royal's involvement. For the first time ever, all pre-registered drivers who make their way into the 24-car starting field will receive a $1,000 bonus for their efforts. A potential $51,000 victory paycheck will be up for grabs, while an admirable $2,250 prize just for making the starting grid will also be provided. Tony Stewart, two-time and reigning NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series champion and owner of Eldora Speedway says, "The Kings Royal is the one winged sprint car event that all drivers and fans circle on their calendar before any others. We are excited to enhance the program by partnering with Crown Royal. They are clearly becoming an important asset to the world of motorsports, especially with their advocacy of responsible drinking." While the golden carrot of the $50,000 purse can't be underestimated, it is the pomp and circumstance of the Kings Royal by Crown Royal that makes the event so special. A trip to the legendary Eldora throne to receive the time-honored crown is an experience coveted amongst those in the sprint car community. First run in 1984, a total of 12 drivers have made that trip, led by veteran Steve Kinser. The Bloomington, Ind., native and 20-time World of Outlaws champion continues to prove that age is no deterrent to performance, as the 51 year-old driver seemingly gets stronger year after year. Coming into this year's edition of the Kings Royal by Crown Royal, Kinser has worn the exclusive crown six times, including the inaugural 1984 victory and last season's thriller. Other wins came in 1988, 1991, 1997 and 2003. Joining Kinser with multiple Kings Royal by Crown Royal wins are Jac Haudenschild (3), Doug Wolfgang (2), Sammy Swindell (2) and Dave Blaney (2), while single event winners include Donny Kreitz, Jr., Bobby Davis, Jr., Johnny Herrera, Dale Blaney, Mark Kinser, Joey Saldana and Jason Sides. In keeping with the Kings Royal by Crown Royal tradition, this year's event will follow a full night of World of Outlaws racing on July 14, entitled appropriately enough, the Knight Before the Kings Royal by Crown Royal. Each night's action will also feature the National Sprint Invaders (360 Sprints) for all open-wheel doubleheaders. Stewart has held the line on admission pricing for the event, with no increases from 2005. Adult general admission on July 14 is $25, while the July 15 Kings Royal by Crown Royal event will see a nominal $30 admission fee. Tickets for both nights are available now at www.eldoraspeedway.com or by calling the Eldora Speedway ticket office at (937) 338.3815 during normal business hours.
