Totally NASCAR: Ford on track for '04 after test; fuel-cell fire extinguishers mandatory

Ford Racing completed the on-track portion of its NASCAR test on the 2004 Ford Taurus. drove the car Tuesday at the Atlanta Motor Speedway at minimum speeds required for the first stages of approval. The car will now be tested at the wind tunnel in Marietta, Ga. to complete the submission test.

Fuel-cell fire extinguishers mandatory

NASCAR says a fire extinguisher in the fuel cell area is mandatory starting this weekend at Michigan. Back on July 30, officials recommended that all Cup, Busch and Truck teams use the added extinguisher. The recommendation becomes a requirement starting with this weekend's races.

Busch sponsor extension

Akins Motorsports has been awarded a two-year contract extension with Great Clips as primary sponsor on the No. 38 Busch Series car and driver . The team is currently 12th in the point standings.

Truck fines

Crew chiefs for the No. 1 (Ted Musgrave), 46 (Dennis Setzer) and 52 (Mike Wallace) trucks have been fined for unapproved jacking bolts at Nashville Superspeedway.
