- Second-seeded Japanese defeated fourth-seeded Russian in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4, Sunday

to win the championship at the $585,000 Generali Ladies Linz tennis event. Sugiyama, who needed three sets to eliminate No. 3 in a semifinal encounter on Saturday, collected $93,000 for her victory.

The 28-year-old Sugiyama captured her fifth-career WTA tour singles title.

The 21-year-old Petrova defeated eighth-seeded Swiss in straight sets on Saturday to earn a spot in the final.
