The last time Price skipped the PGA Championship was in 1991, when then alternate , who took Price's spot, went on to win the tournament.

The 46-year-old, who is the 10th ranked player in the world, last missed a major in 1996 when he pulled out of the U.S. Open with a sinus infection.

The PGA Championship will be held at Oak Hill Country Club from August 14-17, 2003. is the defending champion.
