Tony Stewart, driver of the #20 Home Depot Chevrolet, qualified 26th for Sunday's Pocono 500 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race at Pocono Raceway. "Since yesterday we changed everything but the steering wheel, the seat and the driver," said Stewart, who toured the 2.5-mile triangle in 54.308 seconds with an average speed of 165.721 mph. "We changed everything underneath the race car and this Home Depot Chevrolet is a lot better. Hopefully, tomorrow we'll be in good shape." Stewart's Joe Gibbs Racing teammates - Bobby Labonte and Jason Leffler - qualified seventh and 30th, respectively. Labonte clocked a time of 53.881 seconds with an average speed of 167.035 mph, while Leffler timed in at 54.395 seconds with an average speed of 165.456 mph. Michael Waltrip captured his third career pole position and his first since 1991 with a time of 53.238 seconds at an average speed of 169.052 mph. Rounding out the top-five in qualifying were Kurt Busch (53.356 seconds at 168.678 mph), Brian Vickers (53.465 seconds at 168.334 mph), Jamie McMurray (53.622 seconds at 167.842 mph) and Scott Riggs (53.711 seconds at 167.563 mph). Forty-seven drivers attempted to qualify for the 200-lap race. Those not making the cut in the 43-car field were Kirk Shelmerdine, P.J. Jones, Hermie Sadler and Carl Long. As far as manufacturers went, Chevrolet took the top spot via Waltrip's pole-winning mark, while Ford was next best at the hands of Busch. Carrying the flag for Dodge was fourth-quick McMurray. The Pocono 500 gets underway on Sun., June 12 at 1:40 p.m. EDT. FOX will carry live coverage of the event.
