Asomugha is exactly what the NFL is looking for in its safeties. He has good height, size and speed. He played cornerback this past year at California, but he has been a safety for most of his career and will probably be shifted back in the pros. He has good coverage skills for a safety. He can play man-to-man and has the ability to turn and run with receiver without losing much speed. He is big and can jam receivers at the line. He has decent ball skills and can make some plays on the ball. He is aggressive and will step up versus the run. Asomugha likes to hit and won't shy away from contact. The problem with him is he isn't a good tackler. He takes bad angles, both in run support and in coverage. It seems the more space he has, the worse he plays. He is a smart person but doesn't seem to have natural instincts. Hr will hesitate on the field, which makes him play slower than his time would indicate. He needs to work on his instincts and open field abilities.
