Mauresmo wins Advanta championship

Villanova, PA (Sports Network) - beat Sunday to win the $585,000 Advanta championship. The second-seeded Mauresmo, who was the highest seed in the tournament after withdrew due to an abdominal strain, defeated third-seeded Myskina, 5-7, 6-0, 6-2, on the campus of Villanova University.

Mauresmo won her third title of 2003 and the 11th WTA Tour singles crown of her career. The 24-year-old native of St. Germains en Laye, France was a victor at Warsaw earlier this season.

The 22-year-old Myskina was trying for her third-straight title and fifth of 2003. Myskina, who claimed back-to-back titles in Leipzig and Moscow, failed to garner her seventh career singles title on tour.

Each

player had posted hard fought three-set victories in Saturday's semifinals to reach the championship match.

Mauresmo earned $93,000 for this week's effort.
