Ken Hamlin Scouting Report

Hamlin is a big and imposing strong safety. He is a hitter and he enjoys his job. He left Arkansas as its all time leading tackler. He has average speed and will use it to make plays all over the field. He would make even more plays if he took better angles to the runner. When he gets to the runner, he will deliver a knockout blow. He is a sure tackler and will not arm tackle. He does a good job in run support and steps up to fill the hole. He knows how to get through traffic and will always find the ball carrier. Hamlin is all about stopping the run and really struggles in coverage. He has some man-to-man skills but doesn't do a good job of turning and running with receivers. He doesn't have a good feel for zone coverages, either. He is at his best when allowed to be a centerfielder and make plays in front of him. When he is allowed to do that, he is a good playmaker. He has decent hands but is more concerned with knocking out the receiver than making the interception. He can also be taken advantage of by using play fakes and reverses. Hamlin has also had some legal problems, with two DUI convictions in 14 months, that will damage his draft position.
