LAS VEGAS

Kasey Kahne, driver of the No. 38 Great Clips Dodge, started third for the running of the Sam's Town 300 NASCAR Busch Series race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. After dropping as low as 32nd due to an ill-handling car, the Great Clips team was dealt a lucky hand and fought back in order to finish second in a nail-biting ending between Kahne and race winner Kevin Harvick. Kahne's second-place finish was a season-high. "This is a very rewarding day for this team," said Kahne. "These guys have worked hard all season. We've just had back luck until today. For the tough breaks we had at Daytona and Rockingham, I'll definitely take second. "I was about half a car length behind Kevin (Harvick). I couldn't turn quite as well when I got behind him. We were making ground on him the last 10 laps of the race, but I wasn't as fast when I got under him and got some of his bad air. "I went low and I knew he would go wherever he needed to in order to block me. I knew that Kevin Harvick wouldn't make a mistake out there, and that's basically what it would have taken for us to get by him. It was fun racing with him today. As the green flag fell to start the Sam's Town 300, Kahne immediately radioed to the crew that his car didn't handle well. During the first pit stop on lap 35, the Great Clips team made extreme air pressure and rear sway bar adjustments. Kahne had already fallen from third to 25th position due to the ill-handling Dodge. As the race progressed, Kahne slowly worked his way through the field and sat in 16th position when green flag pit stops began on lap 91. The Great Clips team received the break they needed when the caution came out on lap 96 and the majority of the field had already made its pit stops. Because Kahne had not pitted, he was now sitting in third position. Kahne took over the lead on lap 109 until lap 120. As the race progressed, he commented that his car was starting to free up a bit, however, he never fell below sixth position for the remainder of the 200-lap showdown before finishing second behind Harvick. "These were some of the best pit stops we've had. These guys worked really hard to get me back out there quickly after making a ton of adjustments. We were pretty terrible at the beginning of the race. Our strategy was basically to stay out as long as we could and make as many changes as possible. "It felt really good running up front again."
