Position: College: Sam Houston State Height: 6-3 Weight: 230 40-yard dash: 4.59 Bench press: 315 pounds Hometown: Jacksonville, Texas McCown was a two-year starter at Southern Methodist from 1999-2000. He transferred to Sam Houston State in 2001 so he would not have to sit out a year due to transferring to a non-Division I-A school. McCown has good size and speed for a quarterback. He has a good arm and some running ability as well. He needs a lot of work on his techniques, reads and pocket awareness. He tends to hold the ball a little too long. His deep passes also need a lot of work, as they tend to hang in the air a little too long. His footwork also needs to improve, as he tends to throw off his back foot. McCown went to the Senior Bowl as a replacement for Joey Harrington and saw his stock skyrocket with a solid week of practice.
