JGR Finish: Tony Stewart (2nd - running); J.J. Yeley (11th - running); Denny Hamlin (22nd - running) Tony Stewart just missed his second victory of the 2006 season during Monday's Aaron's 499 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race at the 2.66-mile Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway. Stewart, driver of the No. 20 Home Depot Chevrolet, finished second, just .120 of a second behind winner Jimmie Johnson in the 188-lap event. It marked the third consecutive Talladega race where Stewart has finished second and the sixth time in his 15 career Nextel Cup starts at Talladega where he's finished in the runner-up spot. J.J. Yeley, driver of the No. 18 AsthmaControl.com Chevrolet finished 11th and took the Raybestos Rookie of the Race Award as the highest finishing rookie, while Denny Hamlin finished 22nd, one lap down, in the No. 11 FedEx Freight Chevrolet. Stewart continues to lead the trio of JGR drivers in the championship point standings. His second-place effort moved him from fifth to third in the Nextel Cup point standings. Stewart is now 78 points behind new series leader Johnson and 57 points arrears second-place Matt Kenseth. Yeley's strong run moved him from 26th to 22nd in points. Hamlin dropped from 18th to 19th. Johnson scored his 21st career Nextel Cup victory and his third of the season by winning the Aaron's 499. Stewart was second, while Brian Vickers, Jeff Burton and Jamie McMurray secured the rest of the top-five. Kenseth, Kurt Busch, Carl Edwards, Scott Riggs and Robby Gordon comprised the rest of the top-10. The next event on the Nextel Cup schedule is the May 6 Crown Royal 400 at Richmond (Va.)
