Notes of Interest

  • The Carolina Dodge Dealers 400 will mark Stewart's 181st career NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series start and his 11th career Nextel Cup start at Darlington.
  • Stewart's best finish at Darlington is fourth (twice - Spring 2000 and Fall 2001).
  • Stewart has two top-fives and six top-10s in his 10 career starts at Darlington, including a 10th place effort in last year's Carolina Dodge Dealers 400. Of those six top-10 finishes, three have come in his last five appearances.
  • Stewart had never led a lap at Darlington until the 2002 spring race, where he led a total of seven laps before a spinning Buckshot Jones collected Stewart coming off turn two on lap 226. Stewart was then T-boned by the Dodge of Jimmy Spencer, a hit that sent Stewart to the hospital for overnight observation.
  • The 2002 spring race was the only Darlington race where Stewart posted a DNF (Did Not Finish). In all of his other Darlington races, Stewart's lap completion rate is 100 percent.
  • Deja  vu all over again - Stewart is currently second in the Nextel Cup point standings with 591 points, 82 markers behind series leader Matt Kenseth. At this point last year Stewart was second in the standings with 569 points, 49 markers behind series leader Matt Kenseth. Stewart has scored 22 more points this year than he did last year heading into the fifth race of the season.
  • Stewart is one of only five drivers who have been ranked in the top-10 in points through the first four races of 2004. The other four drivers are Matt Kenseth, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Jeff Gordon and Elliott Sadler.
  • Home Depot store #2203, located in Overland Park, Kan., will be represented on the lower rear quarterpanel of the #20 Home Depot Chevrolet during the Carolina Dodge Dealers 400. Store #2203 was judged to be the outstanding store of the past week, thereby earning its place on the orange and black Joe Gibbs Racing machine.
