Faldo withdraws from PGA Championship

Rochester, NY (Sports Network) - Nick Faldo withdrew from next month's PGA Championship, bringing an end to the longest active streak of consecutive starts in major tournaments at 65. Faldo, a three-time winner of both The Masters and The British Open, became a father for the fourth time on Monday and his decision to skip the tournament is to support his wife and his new daughter.

Faldo's streak dates back to the 1987 British Open, and is the longest since Jack Nicklaus' 146. The Golden Bear's streak started with the Masters in 1962 and ended with the 1998 U.S. Open.

now holds the longest active streak at 53.

The PGA Championship will be hosted by the Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, New York from August 14-17.
