SCOUTING REPORT: Overshadowed by Brandon LaFell and Early Doucet during his time with the Tigers, but made plays when given the chance. Byrd was the Tigers' second-leading receiver this past season with 37 catches for 513 yards and four TDs. Made an immediate impact with LSU in 2007 after transferring from Pearl River Community College. Had a team-high seven TD receptions, and averaged 17.7 yards on 35 catches. Good size, speed and an excellent initial burst make him a dangerous big-play threat. Does a good job of avoiding jams at the line of scrimmage, and has soft hands. Concentration sometimes wavers, though, and will drop catchable balls. Despite good size, he isn't particularly tough or physical and isn't very elusive after a catch. Not a great route runner, something he'll have to work on in the NFL to utilize his frame to work the middle of the field. Given his bulk, he has the ability to be a much better run blocker than he's shown. Has plenty of room to improve, however, having played just one season in high school, when he led Miami Central with 36 catches for 864 yards and 10 TDs. Likely to be a mid-round pick.

UPDATE: Byrd was injured in a traffic accident in Miami on Sunday, April 19. More ...
