November 3, 2003 PHOENIX, AZ - Kasey Kahne, driver of the No. 38 Great Clips Ford, started ninth for the running of the Bashas' Supermarket 200 NASCAR Busch Series race at Phoenix International Raceway.  Kahne was running in the eighth position when he was involved in an accident with Stacy Compton on lap 166.  Due to the unfortunate circumstances, Kahne finished the rain-shortened event in 27th position.

The Bashas' Supermarket 200 was originally set for 200 laps, however, rain showers began to drench the track as the green-flag fell which lead to nearly a three-hour delay.  On lap 176, rain began to fall again, and the race was eventually called at lap 181 with Bobby Hamilton, Jr., as the race leader.

"We had a really good car today, and I just hate this for the Great Clips team," said Kahne.  "This was actually the best short-track car that we've had all year.

"(Stacy)
Compton
wouldn't give me any room out there.  He hasn't given me any room all year long.  He was going to run me into the wall, so I had to come down to prevent him from wrecking me.  He was racing on two new tires, while we had pitted and changed four, so we were definitely faster than he was.

"This team did a great job today and gave me a great car for today's race.  It's unfortunate that this happened for us, but I guess all we can do is look ahead to Rockingham next weekend."

Kahne currently sits in ninth in the NASCAR Busch Series overall driver point standings.

Hamilton, Jr., took the checkered flag, followed by Kevin Harvick, Brian Vickers, Joe Nemechek and Ron Hornaday, Jr., to complete the top five.
