Asante Samuel Scouting Report

Samuel is an experienced corner from Central Florida, having been a starter for the past three seasons. He has only average height, weight, and speed but is quick and fluid. He does a good job of coming out of his breaks with suddenness and with a burst. He changes directions well and can turn and run with receivers in coverage without losing much speed. Samuel has good hands and ball skills. He will anticipate a route and jump it at times. However, if he guesses wrong, he doesn't have the speed to make up for mistakes. He is at his best playing off of receivers and in zone so he can break on the ball. He isn't big and struggles some versus the run, though he is a decent open field tackler. He is a good punt returner who will get a chance to do that in the NFL. Samuel has also blocked three kicks in the past two years.
