Mickelson on Chambers Bay: 'I really enjoyed it'

After visiting Chambers Bay last week, Phil Mickelson offered his take on the unique U.S. Open site following his pro-am round at the Memorial Tournament on Wednesday.

Mickelson reportedly said the course reminded him of a British Open-style course with one key difference.

"I don't see the wind being as strong as a typical British Open," Mickelson told the media Wednesday. "They won't be able to get the greens very fast, to where they're out of control. Certainly, there's a lot of contour, but around the hole where the pin placements are, they seem very fair. I really enjoyed it."

Mickelson's hopes of achieving a career Grand Slam hinge on the U.S. Open, as it is the only major championship he has yet to win. Mickelson finished second in the tournament six times (1999, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2009, 2013). He has not won a major since winning The Open Championship in 2013. The five-time major champion struggled in the U.S. Open last season and failed to contend, finishing 7 over par.
