Fire near Chambers Bay sends smoke billowing over course

A fire at a structure near the Chambers Bay golf course sent smoke billowing over the course during Saturday’s third round.

You can see the fire in the video above.

Tacoma police said the location was a storage unit in the Narrows Marina, about three miles from the northern edge of the Chambers Bay property. The Tacoma News Tribune reported that the fire later spread to the entire dock.

Fire trucks were attempting to douse the blaze, but it left a tower of black smoke climbing hundreds of feet into the sky.

Here are a couple photos of the smoke over the course:

No one was injured in the fire, according to the Tacoma News Tribune. At least a dozen boats inside a boathouse were damaged, and police said they were preparing to investigate.

The Tacoma fire department did not answer a phone call seeking comment.
