Sergio Garcia checks for alligators before hitting barefoot shot out of a hazard

PGA National Golf Club’s Champion course in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. — home of the Honda Classic — is statistically one of the toughest courses on the PGA Tour each and every year, and players also have to be on the lookout for wandering wildlife. After hitting a shot into the water alongside the par-4 6th hole Thursday, Sergio Garcia bravely removed his shoes to hit a recovery shot, but only after checking to see if any alligators were approaching behind him.

Garcia carded a bogey five on the hole, but a 148-yard hole out for eagle and three other birdies on the front nine put Garcia in the lead early on.
