Defending champ Hardin moves into quarters

Defending champion Mina Hardin won two matches Tuesday to
advance to the USGA Senior Women’s Amateur quarterfinals.

Hardin, of Fort Worth, Texas, defeated Denise Desilet of
Wichita, Kan., 4 and 2, in the morning, then cruised past Brenda
Pictor of Marietta, Ga., 5 and 4.

Fellow Texan and former champion Anna Schultz of Rockwall also
moved on. Schultz, who won in 2007, defeated Alexandra Frazier of
Haverford, Pa., 5 and 4, then played a terrific approach shot to 18
to top Leigh Klasse, 51, of St. Anthony, Minn., 1 up in the
afternoon.

Hardin next plays Susan Rheney, 52, of Greensboro, Ga., and
Schultz’s next match is against 64-year-old Nancy Smith, the oldest
of the quarterfinalists.

Medalist Lisa Schlesinger was among the other winners.
