Darren Fichardt opened up a large enough lead to survive a staggering finish Sunday and win the Africa Open at East London, South Africa.
The South African finished at 16-under-par 272 for his fourth European Tour victory. The margin of victory was two strokes over Gregory Bourdy and Jaco van Zyl.
Fichardt took a four-shot lead through 13 holes Sunday before suffering three bogeys in a four-hole stretch. The contenders were unable to catch Fichardt, and he held on for a final-round 71, 1 under par.
Fichardt and Van Zyl shared the lead going into the final day.
