USGA raises prize money for 2003 Open Championships

Far Hills, NJ (Sports Network) - The United States Golf Association announced

Tuesday that the prize money for the 2003 U.S. Open, U.S. Women's Open and

U.S. Senior Open has been increased.

The total purse for this year's U.S. Open has been raised to $6 million,

$500,000 more than the 2002 event, with a first-place payout of $1,080,000.

The 2003 U.S. Open will be played at Olympia Fields Country Club in Olympia

Fields, Illinois from June 12-15.

Another $100,000 was added to the U.S. Women's Open purse, increasing the

total to $3.1 million. The tournament will be contested at Pumpkin Ridge Golf

Club in North Plains, Oregon from July 3-6 with a $560,000 first-place prize

up for grabs.

The U.S. Senior Open also saw an increase of $100,000 in its purse. The total

prize money is now $2.6 million, with a first-place prize of $470,000. The

U.S. Senior Open will be played at Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio from June

26-29.
