Australian Brendan Jones fired a 9-under 62 on Sunday to win the Japanese golf tour's season-opening Token Homemate Cup by two strokes.

Jones, who started the final round tied for sixth, three strokes off the lead, carded nine birdies - including six on the back nine - to finish at 15-under 269 for his 11th career victory in Japan.

The 37-year-old Jones took the lead with his first of four straight birdies on the 14th hole and finished two strokes ahead of Ryuichi Oda, who shot a 65.

''That was probably one of the best rounds of my life,'' said Jones, who collected the $320,000 winner's prize. ''To do it in front of so many people in the gallery, it's just a dream start to 2012.''

Overnight leader Shingo Katayama had a 69 to finish in a three-way tie for fourth at 11 under. Crowd favorite Ryo Ishikawa shot an even-par 71 to finish in 10th place at 7 under.

''I drove the ball well all day, but I just didn't make putts. Golf is difficult,'' the 20-year-old Ishikawa said. ''You have to do well in both ball striking and putting.''
