A glance at Sunday's final day of the Ryder Cup:

Score: Europe beat the U.S. 14 1/2-13 1/2.

How? Europe came back from a 10-6 deficit, the same margin the U.S. came back from in 1999.

Clincher: Martin Kaymer of Germany sunk a 6-footer for the 14th point that Europe needed to retain the cup after winning in Wales in 2010.

Who won? The top European players went off early, and all of them won. Luke Donald, Ian Poulter, Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose and Paul Lawrie won the five opening matches.

Key statistic: Of the six matches that reached the 18th hole, Europe won 4 1/2 points.

Noteworthy: Tiger Woods and Steve Stricker didn't win a single match at Medinah.

Quoteworthy: ''I'm sure there's a lot of great plans in sporting events that sound real good the night before.'' - U.S. captain Davis Love III.

Next: The 2014 Ryder Cup will be Sept. 26-28 at Gleneagles in Scotland.
