The ageless and legendary Inter player enters this list without hesitation. Zanetti's versatility and pace make him an invaluable asset to the San Siro outfit despite his age. If you don't understand or appreciate Zanetti's influence, then you simply don't know the beautiful game.

World 2018 43 World Power Rankings: Top right backs 31177207 Daniel Alves, Barcelona/Brazil Daniel+Alves%2C+Barcelona%2FBrazil World

Barcelona’s man out wide is one of the best attacking backs in the world. His speed is difficult to match and his crosses are very hard to contain. What he is rightly criticized for is neglected the position he is paid to play – he sometimes fails to track back and defend. But his winning record speaks volumes and at one time, he was the most expensive defender in the world.

World 2018 43 World Power Rankings: Top right backs 31177205 Maicon, Inter/Brazil Maicon%2C+Inter%2FBrazil World

Once considered the best right back in world football, Maicon has taken a backseat to Daniel Alves on the national team stage. Yet, that doesn't mean that the Brazilian's skills are diminishing, as Maicon has been linked to Real Madrid and Chelsea over the past year. Just who wouldn't want a player who possesses the ideal balance of attacking skill and defensive quality? Yeah, we thought so.

World 2018 43 World Power Rankings: Top right backs 31177206 Pablo Zabaleta, Manchester City/Argentina Pablo+Zabaleta%2C+Manchester+City%2FArgentina World

The 27-year-old Argentine defender made the switch to Manchester City in 2008 and has significantly improved his international stock. Zabaleta has garnered a reputation of being a tenacious player, who isn't afraid to support Man City's attack. Though he shares the position with fellow teammate Micah Richards, Zabaleta remains Roberto Mancini's preferred option at Etihad Stadium and Alejandro Sabella's number one choice at right back.

World 2018 43 World Power Rankings: Top right backs 31180100 Alvaro Arbeloa, Real Madrid/Spain Alvaro+Arbeloa%2C+Real+Madrid%2FSpain World

Arbeloa's appearance to our list shouldn't come as a surprise. Many critics will point to his unsuccessful with Liverpool as a deterrent, but the truth is that Arbeloa was an integral part of Real Madrid's success in La Liga and Spain's repeat as European champions. The 29-year-old's ability to play any defensive option is an undervalued commodity, but not something that's overlooked in our rankings.

World 2018 43 World Power Rankings: Top right backs 31180098 Chris Smalling, Manchester United/England Chris+Smalling%2C+Manchester+United%2FEngland World

Smalling's insertion to our list shouldn't come as a surprise, as the 22-year-old won the approval of Sir Alex Ferguson during Manchester United's campaign during the 2011-2012 season. One of the tallest right backs in recent memory (1.92m), Smalling looks comfortable in the fullback position, often helping United's wingers in attack. Expect the former Fulham to remain on our radar for years to come.

World 2018 43 World Power Rankings: Top right backs 31180099 Lukasz Piszczek, Poland/Borussia Dortmund Lukasz+Piszczek%2C+Poland%2FBorussia+Dortmund World

Piszczek's name will certainly raise a few eyebrows, but it shouldn't. The Borussia Dortmund defender had a standout season with Bundesliga outfit and had a relatively succesful European Championship tournament. His relentless attacking style made waves, which is why clubs like Chelsea and Real Madrid are inquiring about his services for the 2012-2013 campaign.

World 2018 43 World Power Rankings: Top right backs 31177208 Gregory van der Wiel, Netherlands/Ajax Gregory+van+der+Wiel%2C+Netherlands%2FAjax World

Although van der Wiel had a horrendous Euro 2012 tournament, the Ajax defender is still considered one of the future bright spots in world footbal. The 24-year-old demonstrated flashes of brilliance during Ajax's Champions League run last season, and remains a hot commodity in transfer circles due to his world-class athleticism and football IQ.

World 2018 43 World Power Rankings: Top right backs 31177212 Bacary Sagna, Arsenal/France Bacary+Sagna%2C+Arsenal%2FFrance World

It's hard to believe that Sagna's been at Arsenal since 2007, but that's exactly how long the French defender has terrorized opposing fullback's in the Premier League. The former Auxerre defender sustained an unfortunate leg break, which ruled him out of Euro 2012, much to the chagrin of Laurent Blanc and his technical staff. Considered by Arsene Wenger as the 'best right back in the Premier League,' expect 'Bac' to bounce back to full-health next season.

World 2018 43 World Power Rankings: Top right backs 31180101 Theodor Gebre Selassie, Werder Bremen/Czech Republic Theodor+Gebre+Selassie%2C+Werder+Bremen%2FCzech+Republic World

Gebre Selassie exploded on the international scene this past June, as his superb form helped carry the Czech Republic to the quarterfinals at Euro 2012. The Werder Bremen defender showcased his superior ball skills and technique through the season, and is now considered a top summer transfer target.
